What do you think Eliza's room reveals about her background and her character?

Eliza's room is the place where she cannot even afford to heat it or have light in it unless she has money to put in the "box" which can then provide what many people think of as basic necessities. She does not have what most of us think of as a proper bed; rather she lies down and has as many clothes as possible stacked upon her to keep her warm. She has no washing facilities, so she does not bathe or even "wash her face and hands" (as she later tells Mrs. Pearce) before she goes to bed, eats, or does anything else during the day. Her room puts her in the group that we would call very poor. Hers is absolutely a day-to-day subsistence/existence.
