What is won by the act of ransom? Is anything lost?

In Priam's eyes, nothing is lost. He accepts the fact that the war will, in fact, resume, and that many lives will be lost. He does, however, accept the fact that his "ransom" will allow him to bring his son home, and afford the people of Troy a short period og time, in which, life can be lived to its fullest.
