Mythological allusions include the Phoenix in Act 4/ Scene 4. In this scene Richard calls Elizabeth's womb a "nest of spicery," a reference which relates to the mythological phoenix, who used the "nest of spicery" as a birthplace and funeral pyre. Mercury is also mentioned in Act 4, as are Charon and the River Styx from Act 1.
As far as religious allusions, the Apostle Paul can be found in Act 5, along with Saint George in Act 5/ Scene 3. St George is well known for defeating an evil dragon.
