Rip Van Winkle and Other Stories

1. The American Revolution seems to have sparked imagination among writers in the time period. Discuss at least two examples of imaginative writing in the story. Write a short paragraph on each.
2. The setting of the story is the Catskill Mountains. The author uses personification when describing them. Give at least three examples of this personification.
3. Imagine that you wake up twenty years from now. List five questions you would ask the first person you see. (Be sure that you ask important questions. Don’t ask where the nearest bathroom is or other humorous choices.)
4. Although "Rip Van Winkle" is a fictional tale, it presents truths that can teach the reader. Write a brief (about two paragraph) essay that focuses on the truths presented in the short story.
