Robert Browning's "My Last Duchess"
Robert Browning's "My Last Duchess"
The Duke is attempting to contract the Count's daughter as his next wife. In this line, the Duke refers to the Count's well known generosity while speaking with his messenger. This generosity would affect the "bride price" or money the Duke would receive as a result of marrying the Count's daughter.
