In Chapter Two, we see Crusoe as young man, embarking on his own endeavor to build a successful plantation in Brazil. His expereince with the Captain's friend, who is a wealthy plantation owner, leaves Crusoe to believe planting is where he can make his fortune. Crusoe admittedly is over his head. None-the-less, his increasing wealth sustains him.
