Big Ma knows how to pick and choose her battles. Personal conflicts with white people usually do not end well for black people. Big Ma knows that the disrespect Cassie feels towards Lillian Jean is not worth the fight. The family has bigger things to worry about like survival rather than Lillian Jean being rude to Cassie. Similarly, Uncle Hammer's determination to confront the Simms will only result in more long-term suffering for the Logan family.
