Mr.Lanier says of a lynching, “...ain’t a thing gonna be done ‘bout it.” Why is he so certain that the guilty people will not be punished?

White people or the "Night Men" can get away with lynchings. The law seldom sides with blacks and the law may even have been part of the Night Men.
