The main problem is the racism the Logans and other black families face in their everyday lives. Living in Mississippi in the 1930s was a difficult task for black families, particularly families like the Logans who owned and farmed their own land. The Depression took its toll on everyone, but the Logans faced more than the Depression..... the faced inequality, segregation, and blatant racism that often culminated in violence.
