What do the descriptions of the schools tell us about the social setting of the story?

The school for white children is much better. The buildings, for the white children are made of wood and concrete, they are real buildings. The black children have dilapidated shacks. This shows the extreme racial and economic divide between blacks and whites. Black children have little to no advantage when it comes to any social necessity.
