What do you think would have happened if Uncle Hammer had whipped Simms?

Uncle Hammer's main concern is whether or not Mr. Simms pushed Cassie, and if Simms did, he says he has his own gun to deal with him. Mr. Morrison then immediately jumps into the car to calm him down. My inital reaction would have been the same as Uncle Hammer's. I think it would have been disastrous if he had gone through with it. Confronting Simms would have put the whole family in danger, as well Hammer himself.
