What overall idea is the scene in Strawberry portraying?

i am needing help with this question badly, i cannot find any resource for the question

Basically the themes in Strawberry are portraying the blatant overt racism that exists in the community. From Stacey and Cassie being insulted in the general store to Mama and Cassie being forced to apologize to a white girl in the street, there is no sense of justice or respect for black people.
