what was tjs relationship with his old friends? with his new friends?

It's pretty hard to stay friends with TJ. He is manipulative and often lies for his own ends. The Logan’s are probably his old friends who stick by him. TJ is hard on them. After receiving a deservedly failing mark for cheating on a test, TJ reports Mrs. Logan to the white administration. He lets Stacey initially take the blame for his cheating. He also lures Stacey to the Wallace store which was forbidden by his family. TJ, eventually befriends the Simms. This is not a friendship though. They, however, merely use him to take the fall for stealing.
