why do you think mama takes the children to see the charred figure of mr. berry? that effect does it have on the children

Mama wants to show them what some white people, specifically rthe Wallaces, do to blacks. She wants them to keep away from the Wallace store. She also wants them to show charity to someone than now looks different than them.

Mama takes the logan kids to see the charred figure of Mr.Berry as punishment for the children going up to the wallace store. The children are very much amused by Ms.Berry who is still committed to her husband after he has been set on fire. The children also (hopefully) understood the effects of not listening to the Mum or Pa.
