Why is losing her job especially painful for Mrs.Logan?

Mrs. Logan lost her job as a direct result of her actions on behalf of the black community. In other words, the people in charge didn't like her views and actions outside of her classroom, so they fired her to make a point. Mrs. Logan needed her job to pay the mortgage on their land and assist with household finances.
