Why was share cropping introduced?

Share-cropping allowed landowners to get help in their fields for the price of a small plot of land, which they still owned, and the opportunity for the workers to profit from their share. This allowed newly freed slaves a way to obtain work, and it allowed landlords to fill their job needs.
