Why would it be dangerous for Uncle Hammer to live with the Logan's instead of up north in the city?

Uncle Hammer is ambitious and independent. The opportunites he's had in Chicago have afforded him a good income and the luxuries he desired. Hammer wouldn't be able to live with the Logans because he'd no longer be able to settle for the backbreaking work that afforded the farmers very little money. He wouldn't allow Granger or anyone else to treat him the way they treat his family..... and likely, he'd find himself hung for his dissention.
