Romeo and Juliet
Evaluate Capulet's character at this point
Act 4
Act 4
Capulet seems pleasant and, at times, even a doting father. He, however, has a much uglier side to him. Girls were pretty much the property of their fathers until they got married. Although Capulet claimed earlier that Juliet needed to like Paris first, the truth is she was always subject to her father's decisions. When Capulet's word is challenged by his daughter, he changes to a very abusive person. When he believes Juliet is death, he reverts back to Juliet being precious again. Capulet is very much a product of his own unstable male ego.
