The turning point occurs when Romeo kills Tybalt. This is something he wanted to avoid, he has already married Juliet and is looking forward to the future. Tybalt's death places Romeo in an almost irreversible situation.... he is banished, his marriage remains a secret, and Juliet's father is prepared to marry her off to someone else.
