How far can this statement be applied to the actions of the characters in Romeo and Juliet?
The Friar is saying that all things have the potential to help or harm a situation. He reflects on this as he collects medicinal herbs that must be taken in the right amounts. Romeo and Juliet must moderate their "love". Love and passion unchecked could harm them.
Shakespeare uses metaphor in this soliloquy. This idea will both fit Romeo and Juliet foreshadowing because they both love each other too much no matter how wonderful it may be, but once it is “misapplied” it will turn disastrous.
