On Page 68 Charlie says, “That night I turned sixteen years old.” What do you think he means in this quote?

Charlie has to grow up fast when he sees how Peacock takes advantage of his mother., ‘That night (he) turned sixteen years old’ (p.68). Charlie needs to mature beyond hi years and come to here defence when Peacock abuses her.
