Sonnet 30 is a tribute to the poet's friend. Most scholars believe it was intended for Shakespeare's lover , the Earl of Southampton. Shakespeare was most likely bi-sexual if not homosexual (It's true; I even saw it on A&E biography!)Whoever it is, he misses this person terribly. His lover's absence re-opens old wounds of other friends lost long ago. He replays "old woes" in his mind; he sees desires not fulfilled and dreams that have vanished. In the end, the poet laments the memory of his friend as worth more than all his disappointments and losses in his life, "But if the while I think on thee, dear friend, all losses are restored and sorrows end."
