She Stoops to Conquer
How does this play represent the characteristics of age ?
SHE STOOPS TO CONQURE OR THE MISTAKES OF A NIGHT A COMEDY by Oliver Goldsmith
SHE STOOPS TO CONQURE OR THE MISTAKES OF A NIGHT A COMEDY by Oliver Goldsmith
Meaning the "classical" age it portrays or the age of its characters?
How does this play represent the characteristics of it's age ?
As far as the age of its characters, "She Stoops to Conquer" has a lot to do with coming of age in a legal sense. Constance must come legally of age before she can take over her inheritance; Tony must come of age before he can collect his yearly allowance. Social status was everything, thus, we see Dorothy Hardcastle desperately attempting to retain control over her niece's fortune by marrying the minor into her immediate family.
