What is the difference between killing the elephant and “murdering” the elephant?
From the text, we can infer that killing the elephant is considered a needful action during the elephant's rampage... the time in which the elephant was a danger to others. In the end, Orwell's resistance to killing the elephant, which is no longer dangerous, becomes an act of murder.
