The is some dark humor if you choose to see it that way. Having Homer Barron's corpse on her bed for so many years while the town merely speculated on him was a little funny in a dark way. It is also humorous that Emily never paid her taxes because of some promise that a now deceased official had supposedly made to her years before most in the town can remember.
