A Rose For Emily
Why does "A Rose For Emily" seem better told from his or her point of view than if it were told from the point of view of the main character?
Why does "A Rose For Emily" seem better told from his or her point of view than if it were told from the point of view of the main character?
The point of view is a peculiar one. The story is in first person but the narrator refers to as himself or herself as "we". There is a certain objectivity that goes with the anonymity of this narrator. We get the sense that he or she is reliable. We could not say this for Emily, were she to be the narrator. Emily had a lot of emotional issues, like keeping her boyfriend's corpse n her bed, which mad her her rather unreliable.
