How do the events of the hunt connect to Mr. Ernest's decision to send the boy to school?

The narrator describes hunting season in the bayou until the day after the season closed. The men besides Mister Ernest point out that the narrator ought to be in school. The other hunters keep insisting to Mr. Ernest that the narrator should go to school. Then Mister Ernest breaks the news that the narrator has to go to school. The narrator protests that he wants to be a farmer and a hunter, just like Mister Ernest, but the old man tells him "that ain't enough any more." He begins to understand the way of the hunting world, but Mister Ernest insists that that isn't enough: "You got to belong to the business of mankind." There is more to life than farming and hunting.
