what kind of person is emily

On the surface, it appears that she is caring and loving and excited about marrying Homer.  However, we soon realize that she has poisoned him because he was to desert her and leave her shamed in front of the entire town.  She cannot live with shame and cannot be deserted by another man in the way that her father deserted her after his death.
