Why doesn't the townspeople like Emily?

She isn't very rude or anything....right? I mean, I read this book a million times and I don't get why the townspeople don't like Miss Emily.

She is a private old lady who doesn't follow her "role". She peruse a public "scandalous" relationship with Homer. She does mysterious things like buy arsenic.
