In this Chapter Siddharta tells his best friend Govinda "It is fleeing from the self, it is a short escape of the agony of being a self, it is a short numbing of the sense against the pain an the pointlessness of life" (Hesse 15). The passage is saying that Siddharta has not experienced what he expected it to be with the Samanas. Siddharta also started to question the ways of learning and teaching of the Samanas. Siddharta eventually gets tired of the Samanas same daily rituals and mediation anf feels that he is just going in circles. Eventually Siddharta realized that Samana is not helping him to find himself.
