As a boy -play/belonging/desire for love

As a youth- material possessions, sexual awakening/ thinking of future not present.

as a man- sex, material wealth, desire for admiration

By this point, he has begun to let his earthly desires go. He has stripped himself of the ornaments of life and begun to accept his pain as part of his present rather than avoiding it.
