In what way does Siddhartha represent the theme of the self or individualism?

Siddhartha is very different than Govinda. He is not looking to be a follower.... to be a part of a group, and he no longer wishes to be taught, but rather, discover knowledge on his own. Siddhartha enters into various phases, which he embraces for what they have to teach him, and then he moves on.... never satisfied with the knowledge he has garnered. The Hindu and Buddhist religions do not provide him with the whole picture.... he respects the teachings of the Buddha, but he wants to attain that same enlightenment for himself.... by listening to his Self, rather than denying it.
