The author begins by describing a perfect American town, with beautiful vegetation and countless varieties of plants and fruits. Suddenly, from the sky, comes a white fine powder and in days everything begins to die: plants, bees, the young animals and even the rivers are poisoned. The author wants us to know what is and can be lost from man-made poison (pollution).
