Sir Gawain and the Green Knight

What does the Green Knight mean when he tells Gawain, " You failed a little, lost good faith"?

This means that Gawain failed the Green Knight's text when he accepted the green belt from his wife. Accepting this token was an act of fear for his own life.... something that ultimately speaks to a lack of the courage and virtue a true knight should possess.
