The narrative structure (or primarily the lack thereof) is an attempt to criticize in a serious way the actual events that took place in Dresden. By this I mean that Vonnegut did not believe a structured narrative with a linear plot could do justice to the chaos and destruction in Dresden, and so the book parallels this chaos through its own structure.
I know it's been a while since you posted this but I was wondering what you found on this question??
Thanks.
