what happened at icheyamas movie theater?

There was a mandatory blackout in town, but Mr. Ichiyama wasn't aware of it. Otoo Willets went up and unscrewed the marquee, after which, he and two other men drove out to the theatre owner's home and shouted racial slurs (dirty jap) and told him that they should have broken every light in the marquee rather than unscrewing them.

Mr. Ichiyama was grateful, apologetic, and ignored all insults.
