Views of Ramatoulaye on the characteristics of African men

The nature of African men is not too flattering in this book. They are generally seen as patriarchal and abusive. Throughout the novel, Ramatoulaye talks about how her husband psychologically abandoned her after cheating on her with a second wife, and the emotional toll that took on her.
