What is Melinda's home life like?

Melinda's relationship with her parents is distant..... first, because she's unwilling to communicate; second, because they are too busy or too involved with their own lives to notice there's something drastically wrong with their daughters; third, because Melinda resents certain aspects of her parent's relationship.... namely, her father's seeming unwillingness to help out at home.
