Tyler was unhappy as a child born. His parents were divorced. His father, Arthur, didn't spend a lot of time with him. Tyler's mother believed that "everything happens for a reason," and as a result, Tyler adopts the attitude that the flu must be a part of a greater story. Tyler comes to wield power by gaining followers and helping them make sense of a non-sensical event.
