Philosopher Alfred Whitehead once remarked that Western philosophy might be best characterized as one long "footnote" to Plato. In this understanding, we can legitimately say that we can learn the very foundations to literally aspect of intellectual and social life in Western culture. More so than anything else, though, I think we ought to learn from Plato the hallowed status of the truth--truth that is not contingent upon market forces or banal peer pressure.
