contrast monsieure defarges attitude towards the revolution with that of his wife
Defarge approaches the Revolution in the hopes of bettering the lives of those around him...... he is an honest proponent of the Revolution. His wife on the other hand bases her participation on revenge. Defarge's motives might be seen as selfless, whereas we'd describe his wife's motives as selfish. The French Revolution was an ugly time in history.
