How do u view the Character of Mr.Defarge comparing it to Mrs.Defarge?
In my opinion, Madame Defarge is the stronger of the two characters. Defarge has the ability to be somewhat sympathetic to Darnay's arrest and imprisonment, but his wife is bitter and cold-hearted. She feels no sympathy for Darnay because of his familial link to the Marquis, and even wants to extend her revenge to his innocent wife and daughter. She is unable to be swayed to view him at a human level.
A Tale of Two Cities
M. Defarge owns a wine shop in a poverty stricken area of Paris called Saint Antoine. He used to work for Dr. Manette, but has since moved on from a life of servitude to becoming a business owner. The man is intelligent and has good leadership skills which he uses as a committed member of the revolutionaries. His biggest hope is to see a better society for everyone regardless of what it takes, but he does have a soft spot for his former employer......... something considered a weakness by those close to him.
Mrs. Defarge, unlike her husband, doesn't have a kind bone in her body. She's bloodthirsty and filled with anger. She knits while her husband works, but what she knits isn't a night cap; it's a "hit" list, filled with the names of the victims that the revolution intends to execute.
Tale of Two Cities
Mr.Defarge, the brain behind the revolution is clever and capable leader. He is a clever man as he fights for the poor. Unlike his wife he has no personal enmities and he rallies for the masses.Though Defarge displays humanity and kindness at times, he is a revolutionary at heart. He felt sympathetic towards Darnay at his rearrest but Madame Defarge is stone-hearted and bitter minded towards the oppressors and Evremonde family. She stands for the oppressed women of France and she leads them as she heartlessly fights for their rights. When Mr. Defarge pleads with her to spare Lucie, she scorns him and secretly plans her revenge on Lucie; when Mr. Defarge loses heart, she goads him and asks to have patience. Unlike her husband, she no spark of humanity.
