What do you think about Peter's mother leaving Fudge with the kids in Central Park?

This question calls for your opinion, so think about the park in terms of safety and your own experiences. Peter's friend Jimmy has been mugged at the park three times, so his mother doesn't want him to be on his own.... so, the first thing that pops into my head is the question of whether he's any safer traveling on his own than he is spending time in the park alone. What do you think?
