Paul attends the carnival hoping to catch the attention of Kerri again. Unfortunately Karri doesn't pay much attention to him. Instead she is flirting with other guys. She ends up going on the double ferris wheel with a guy named Adam. Paul again feels self conscious, he feels his thick glasses and awkward manner repel girls. This is very realistic for boys that don't fit the stereotype many "popular" girls are looking for. Paul, like many boys, internalizes his pain. This sort of rejection is something that most socially awkward or even "average" guys experience at some time in their lives.
