Reread Paul’s confrontation with his parents. Why do Mr. and Mrs. Fisher create the story about the eclipse of the sun to explain what happened to Paul’s eyes? Do you think their explanation is reasonable? Why or why not?

I think their explanation was cowardly and silly. They were protecting Erik more that they were protecting the victim Paul. Paul was smart enough, even at that young age, not to stare at the sun. Paul's parents hated conflict and enabled Erik's sociopathic behavior.
