What is Paul's theory about why the Donnelly house has been repeatedly hit by lightning?

Paul theorizes that the Donnelly home was located on what used to be the high ground, the place that attracts lightening. He says it doesn't matter that the landscape has now been flattened by bulldozers.... the lightening remembers.
