Why was Mr. Donnelly unable to be proud of his own record?

Donnelly was not proud of his own record because his record was reinstated as a result of Antoine's confession. Antoine had broken Donnelly's record six times over, and yet, he forfeited that record because he lived on the wrong side of the boundary. Donnelly as not proud to have something he no longer deserved given back to him.
