Why do you think the author shows the terrible things as anonymous

This is an allegory, thus the terrible things could be most anything..... anywhere. The author's intent is to show how the Holocaust grew and spread..... how for many there was no escape...... some didn't even know what to look for. This allegory also exemplifies how people turned the other way and didn't believe the stories and the rumors.
