1-What is the significance of calling the novel Tess of the D’Urbervilles when its protagonist is in fact Tess Durbeyfield?

The change in Tess' name is ironic to say the least. D’Urberville is an aristocratic name, and Tess is anything but aristocratic. She's nothing more than a country girl..... a working girl at that.
