IS TESS A PURE WOMAN?

This really depends on what context you are looking at it from. From a modern day context, the very phrase "pure woman" is problematic. Female "purity" is a male invention to exert control over the female gender. In the context of the novel, some may consider Tess "un-pure" because her sexual status was directly linked to her worth.

Here are two schools of thought , according to one she is impure because her sexual status is corrupted and the other says she is still a pure woman because didn't react willingly at any attempt. Second thought seems to be be more accurate as it is based on several authentic reasons.
